Custom picture framing means the frame is designed around your piece instead of your piece being fitted into a standard frame.
Most pieces we see have a particular size, a particular mood and a particular place to live. A standard frame ignores all three. Custom framing starts with them. We look at the piece, learn about the room, and then choose each element so that it supports the artwork.
The result is a frame that feels considered rather than assembled: a moulding that suits the weight of the piece, a mat that gives it room, and glazing that protects it without getting in the way. You stay involved at every step and approve the plan before we build.

Materials & finishes
Four groups of choices. Scroll sideways to see them all.
Mouldings
Wood and painted finishes in slim, medium and deep profiles.
Consider: the weight of the piece and the style of the room.
Mat boards
Neutral and soft tones, single or layered, with margins to suit.
Consider: a wider mat can calm a busy piece.
Glazing
Clear, matte low-reflection and UV-filtering options.
Consider: how bright the wall is, and how much reflection bothers you.
Backing & mounting
Secure mounting and closed backing suited to the item.
Consider: the age, type and condition of the piece.
Art protection & preservation
Protection is part of the design. We cannot promise how long a piece will last, because that depends on its condition and where it hangs, but we can make sensible choices to reduce common risks.
- LightGlazing options designed to filter UV light, and advice on placement.
- DustClosed, neat backing that helps keep dust out of the frame.
- ContactA mat that holds the artwork away from the glazing surface.
- HandlingSturdy construction and hardware suited to the finished weight.

Customisation possibilities
Start simple, or go further. These are some of the ways a frame can be made your own.
A single mat in a neutral tone
Double or layered mats, with an inner line of a second colour, or a wider bottom margin.
A standard-width moulding
A slimmer or deeper profile, a different finish, or a frame shaped to a gallery-wall set.
Clear glazing
Matte low-reflection or UV-filtering glazing for brighter rooms.
One piece, one frame
Matching frames for a pair or series, or a collage mat for several photographs.
Standard hanging
Hardware chosen for heavy pieces, or arrangements planned for a specific wall.

Tell us about the piece. We talk through your ideas, the space and any concerns.

We measure the piece precisely and note its condition, so the design starts from facts.
Design selection
You compare mouldings, mats and glazing against your piece, and we refine proportions together.

Framing
The frame is built, the mat is cut, and the piece is mounted and assembled with protective backing.
Final review & collection
We check the finished frame against the plan with you, then it is ready to hang.
Frequently asked questions
Can you frame a piece of any size?
Most sizes are possible. Very large or unusual pieces may need extra planning, so tell us the dimensions early.
Can I bring my own frame?
Bring it in and we will take a look. We can often suggest a mat and mounting to suit it, depending on its condition and size.
How do I choose between styles?
Hold samples against your piece, with the wall in mind. We will show you how each option changes the look and tell you which we think suits best.
Is glazing always needed?
Not for every piece, but it is recommended for most works on paper. We will explain the options for yours.
How is the price decided?
It depends on the size, moulding, mat, glazing and workmanship. We quote each project after the consultation.
How long will it take?
We will give you an estimate once the design plan is agreed, because it varies with the materials and the complexity.
Can you hang it for me?
Ask the studio about hanging help. In any case, we will supply suitable hardware and advice for your wall.
What if I change my mind during design?
That is part of the process. Nothing is built until you approve the plan.
